4JAS was founded in 1983 and initially concentrated on US Army units rather than Airborne. But the having fun part of the hobby was part of the group's ethos even then as it is now. The group's motto to this day is, taken from the American Declaration of Independance: Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The representation of Dog Company of 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment wasn't begun until 1990.
In 1995 4JAS had all but ceased to exist and attended the VE-Day 50th anniversary commemorations that year more as a last hurrah. But we were met by veterans who loved what we were doing and asked why we didn't help the Poppy Appeal. From that year on we have assisted the annual fund-raising on behalf of the Royal British Legion, contributing over £35,000 to their cause in that time.
4JAS not only continued, but continues to grow and now past it's silver anniversary in 2008 has the highest number of members on it's books in the groups history with nearly 40 active members on it's roster. Though technically based on the Wirral, the group has members from all over the country and abroad.
While the backbone of 4JAS remains the US Airborne forces but now, as well as D Company 506th incorporates elements of airborne Engineers and Artillery. There is also a smal Women's Army Corps section and the Homefront, both militarily and civilian is also represented.
The group has two jeeps, details of which can be found on the website. You might also notice our growing and lively forum. Newcomers or anyone interested in 4JAS and it's activities are well advised to register on there and 'meet' the guys for a chat, or contact us via emailing fourjas@btopenworld.com
Many times I've been told what a friendly and approachable lot we are. As the group's leader and co-founder I am proud of that. To see the truth of that I would welcome you to come and say hello either online or in person at an event. And remember....
Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness!!
